The Victorian TAFE system is changing

The main idea behind the change is to encourage more people to gain formal qualifications at a higher level, especially in areas where employers find it difficult to attract staff due to skills shortages. The improved training system is one way to ensure Victorians have the skills needed to keep the economy strong and secure.

Whatever your situation, new changes to the TAFE system may make it more easier for you to gain new skills or to upgrade your existing qualifications.

The Victorian TAFE system is changing

The Victorian State Government has introduced a new initiative called Securing Jobs for Your Future – Skills for Victoria, designed to improve the training system and encourage more people to train and gain formal qualifications.

Key changes

• The initial focus is on creating more opportunities for Victorians to gain qualifications for Skills Deepening programs i.e. diploma, advanced diploma, vocational graduate certificate and vocational graduate diploma.
• A subsidised place is guaranteed at TAFE to anyone who meets eligibility criteria.
• 70% of the training cost will be subsidised for eligible diploma students.
• The number of government-subsidised places at TAFE is increasing.
• Financial assistance is available, regardless of whether you are a government-subsidised student or not.
