The Students portfolio is accountable for identifying the characteristics, needs and aspirations of different groups of RMIT students and the delivery of services that maximize access, participation, retention and student success. The portfolio includes the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic Registrar, RMIT Union and Student Services.

The Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University, and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation. The Portfolio is responsible for:

  • identifying and planning for administrative and support services to meet the needs and desires of different student cohorts across the student lifecycle
  • responding in a timely manner to student complaints and identifying organisational system improvements
  • establishing and managing student services, sport and recreation and arts activities to meet differing needs
  • promoting access to VET and Higher Education by students from diverse backgrounds and targeted equity groups
  • developing policy and strategy as it relates to the University’s students.

The Portfolio has carriage of a number of priorities and actions for the University’s Equity and Diversity plan to 2010 (PDF 100kb 9p) related to ensuring improved outcomes for equity group students.

The programs and administrative and support services provided by the Students portfolio offer opportunities for learners to be personally challenged and empowered and contribute to the development of critically reflective and fulfilled graduates. The provision of a stimulating and satisfying experience for our students is a priority for the University. The Portfolio’s work enhances the quality of the student experience and by extension, improves the attraction and retention of a diverse student body.
