Audience: Year 11 and 12 students
The School of Mathematical & Geospatial Sciences is happy to offer schools the choice of 4 school visit options on the RMIT city campus.
(~ 1 hour, ideally less than 50 students/ session)
In this session, we involve the class in three activities currently undertaken by our own statistics researchers and sports statisticians. The activities include:
The session will also include a look at the outstanding career options of maths and stats graduates, and a specific look at the work we do with sporting teams.
(~ ½ – ¾ hour, no limit on numbers)
In this option we present the outstanding career options of the maths and stats graduates with a specific look at the work we do in different industries. This session involves some presentations of the projects undertaken, and the problems mathematicians and statisticians solve.
(~ ½ – ¾ hour, no limit on numbers)
This is a more general overview of the career options RMIT offers in mathematical, statistical and geospatial sciences. This focuses on what our students learn, what careers they pursue and the problems they solve in a variety of industries.
We will showcase some of the careers graduates of mathematics, statistics, surveying and geomatics go into, and inform the students of the huge number of opportunities to interact with industry when studying – even before they graduate!
(75–90 minutes, up to 30 students per session)
In this interactive session, students will undertake a GPS mapping exercise in and around the City campus. Students will discover the possibilities and limitations of the technology when they enter their own data into Google Earth and track where they have been.
