The School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering’s Discipline Head for Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, Prof. Reza Jazar, has recently announced the publication of his new book, "Vibrations of Thick Cylindrical Structures."

The book is co-authored with Professor Hamid Hamidzadeh of Tennessee State University and published by Springer Science and Technology Media (STM), whose webpage gives the following description: "Most reported studies on the dynamic response of cylindrical structures have been restricted to the application of the shell theories. These theories are based on a number of simplifying assumptions. The most important of which is, the considered shell must be relatively thin to assume constant stresses within the cylinder. Therefore, due to this limitation, shell theories are inadequate to accurately describe all possible vibration modes in thick cylindrical structures. Vibrations of Thick Cylindrical Structures addresses these problems by applying the theory of elasto-dynamics."

Professor Jazar commented that “Vibrations of Thick Cylindrical Structures is an advance research book in Structural Vibrations. It presents a unique approach that can be applied to both, thin and thick walled cylindrical structures. The method is capable to go beyond cylindrical structures, such as multi-layers and partial panels.”

“The book may be used by researchers and also by post-graduate students for design and research.” He says.
