Changing Program

(Including both conversion from Masters to PhD/PhD to Masters and same level transfer)

Candidates who convert from Masters by Research to PhD (or vice versa) or change program must submit a new Confirmation of Candidature form (DOC 198KB 8p) and written report on the candidate’s progress from the senior supervisor. Please also refer to the Higher Degrees by Research Policy and Procedures items 5.2 – 5.5 (PDF 814KB 66p).

Confirmation of Candidature requires the candidate to satisfy a panel that adequate progress is being made in the degree to justify continuation of candidature. This must involve an oral presentation to the panel and a full written proposal of the proposed research using the College of Science, Engineering and Health Confirmation of Candidature form (DOC 198KB 8p).

International students must report to RMIT International prior to changing program.

The candidate will be notified once the College of Science, Engineering and Health Higher Degrees by Research Sub Committee has approved conversion to the new program.

Please check with your School's Research Administrator/Supervisor if you may be eligible for exemption from the mandatory Research Methods course.

To ensure that the change of program can be processed before the census dates, it is essential for the Confirmation of Candidature form (DOC 198KB 8p) to be submitted at least one month prior to the impending census dates.

Your period of candidature for the previous Research program will be counted towards your total period of candidature in the new program.
