Student facilities

Student lounge (603)

The student lounge is located at the rear of building 601.

  • Boiling water and chilled water is available at all times.
  • Refrigerator, microwave oven, sandwich maker and toaster are available for use.
  • If any of the kitchen equipment is used, it is the responsibility of the user to leave it clean for the next person.
  • It is expected that all students maintain the cleanliness of the student lounge. RMIT cleaners do not wash dishes and cannot clean the sink and benches effectively if dishes are left on these surfaces.
  • Drink and snack machines are available in the student lounge.
  • Note that the Administration office does NOT have change available for these machines.
  • Please report any faults with the machines to the administration office.
  • A table tennis table is provided. Bats and balls are stored in the cupboard.
  • A TV and DVD player are provided for student use. Please ensure this equipment is not misused.

Telephones

Students have access to a pay phone in the vestibule of the student lounge.

A telephone for internal RMIT calls is located in the interview room in the front foyer. To dial any RMIT number, simply dial the last 5 digits of the number required. This telephone can be used at all times for emergency calls. Dial 0 000.

Lockers

Lockers are available for the use of all students. They are situated in the western entrance off the central corridor.

  • Locks and keys are available from the administration office.
  • There is a deposit of $10.00 to be paid when obtaining a lock and key. This will be refunded in full upon the return of the lock and key after use.
  • There are a limited number of lockers and they will be allocated on a “first in first served” basis.
  • If you lose the key to the lock you will forfeit the deposit of $10.00 as this is the replacement cost for a new lock and key.
  • Students must NOT supply their own locks.

Computer lab

There is a 24 hour access computer laboratory with security card access for students and visitors. The room is equipped with 20 PCs, a laser printer and photocopier which use a card-based charging system. The computer systems are complete with Windows XP, Office software and high-speed internet access.
