Access to RMIT Design Archives resources is available by prior appointment only. Complete the Research Request form. A staff member will make contact to advise whether the Archives is able to assist with your enquiry.
Appointments can be made between 2.00 to 5.00 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays (excluding public holidays and staff leave). The RMIT Design Archives is in the process of creating an online catalogue of its collections. Until the catalogue is online, inventory reports, if available, may be made available to visiting researchers.
At least two weeks’ notice of a proposed appointment date is required.
Note that RDA staff do not undertake research on behalf of researchers.
Visitors are required to sign a visitor register. A staff member will introduce visiting researchers to the RMIT Design Archives and explain how materials are to be handled. Personal laptops are permitted, however, no equipment used for the reproduction of material (ie cameras) is to be used unless pre-arranged with the RDA.
The RDA is not the owner of intellectual property / copyright for all items held in its collection. Where the RDA does not own the copyright of objects or works, in some cases the RDA may be able to assist in locating contact details for the copyright holder or their agent so that the applicant may obtain appropriate copyright permissions. A copy of this permission must be supplied in writing to the RDA before reproductions can be undertaken on behalf of the applicant and provided to the applicant.
The RDA will be guided by the recommendations of the RMIT Copyright Service relating to copyright and intellectual property requests by researchers.
Fees and charges may apply to reproduction requests.
