The reputation of the RMIT Architecture discipline is best accounted for by the individual and collective achievements of the students and staff who comprise this community, by the quality of the projects that we undertake and the partnerships that we forge internationally and across the region. Below are a series of links to key activities and outcomes.
A consistent measure of the quality of our professional degree students can be tracked in their performance in the RAIA Student Biennale Awards, the primary and most prestigious national Australian undergraduate student design competition. In the 11 RAIA Student Biennale competitions that have been run since 1985, there have been 8 Biennale Award winners and 9 commended finalists from RMIT Architecture. Our students are also performing well in the RAIA Architecture Awards, the AA Unbuilt Architecture awards, the Victoria State Premier's Design Awards and in international design competitions.
Many RMIT Architecture graduates have gone on to found practices and win significant awards relatively early in their careers.
Many RMIT Architecture postgraduate research degree candidates, particularly in the invited stream, are very active practitioners undertaking research by project who have won RAIA awards and design competitions for projects undertaken as case-study projects in their research degrees.
The invitational postgraduate stream consists of award winning practitioners who have developed a body of work that demonstrates mastery of their field, being invited to undertake postgraduate study where they reflect upon the nature of that mastery within a critical framework, speculate through design on the nature of their future-practice and demonstrate their findings publicly.
Many RMIT Architecture staff are very active practitioners who are winning RAIA awards and design competitions. Publications and architectural media projects by RMIT Architecture academic staff have also received acclaim through RAIA and industry awards. Staff have also received prestigious national research and education awards.
