More than 4 million watched the documentary.
Phoenix Satellite, a Mandarin-language television broadcaster, has turned to RMIT University for a documentary about the Victorian bushfires, which rated 4.3 million viewers worldwide.
The Hong-Kong-based broadcaster, part-owned by News Corporation, commissioned correspondent George Yang and a production team to film the documentary on location in Melbourne and fire-affected areas.
The team turned to experts from RMIT’s School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning and the School of Architecture and Design.
Associate Professor Michael Buxton examined the issues associated with living in fire-prone areas and the opportunities for improved government planning and land buy-backs.
Adjunct Professor Father Peter Norden AO commented on arsonist profiles, aspects of criminal justice and media coverage relating to arson.
Associate Professor David Mercer spoke on the unique characteristics of the Victorian bush, fuel load and environmental policy.
Adjunct Professor Norman Day made the case for the design solutions that need to be found for people living in bushfire zones.
